Autumn Parker has been eagerly anticipating Halloween all year, as it is the one day she could embrace her spooky, scary side and truly be herself. However, her mom surprises her with the same pop-star costume that the popular girls are wearing, leaving Autumn feeling disappointed. 

With the help of her older sister and her best friend Eli, she transforms the costume into something even more creative: a vampire pop star, reminiscent of characters in a horror novel. But when her picture is snapped for the school costume contest, something strange happens. The image reflects a girl with perfect fangs, flawless hair, and the kind of eerie confidence that Autumn has always yearned for. Suddenly, kids begin to see those fangs in real life, even when Autumn is holding her plastic ones. At first, being the scary girl everyone notices feels exhilarating. The Jessicas want her in their photos, and her costume actually has the potential to win. 

Yet, as the vampire persona from her transformation starts to take over, Autumn finds herself at risk of losing Eli, her authentic voice, and the messy, quirky elements of herself that are genuinely real. Now, Autumn must confront a crucial question: does she want to look perfect like a character from Stephanie Rose's stories, or will she choose to embrace her true self in all its imperfect glory?
